Walkman Chanakya Font Guide

Walkman Chanakya (including the popular 901 and 905 variants) is the undisputed king of legacy Hindi typography. It has been the backbone of the North Indian newspaper and DTP industry for over two decades.

How to Download Walkman Chanakya

Walkman Chanakya is proprietary software originally developed for legacy publishing. Because it is copyrighted material, we cannot provide direct `.ttf` (TrueType Font) downloads here.

To obtain the font legally: You should purchase a license from the original foundry or receive it as part of an authorized DTP software bundle (like older versions of PageMaker localized for India).

Note: If a client or printing press requires you to submit a file in Chanakya, they will often provide the specific font file (e.g., CHANAKYA.TTF or walkman-chanakya-905.ttf) along with their design brief.

How to Install the Font

On Windows 10 & 11:

  1. Locate the downloaded `.ttf` file.
  2. Right-click the file and select Install for all users.
  3. Restart your design software (Photoshop, CorelDRAW, MS Word).

On macOS:

  1. Double-click the `.ttf` file.
  2. Click the Install Font button in the Font Book window that appears.
  3. The font is now ready to use.

Don't Want to Learn the Keyboard?

Typing directly in Chanakya requires memorizing a complex English-to-Hindi mapping. Instead of doing that, you can type normally in Unicode (Mangal/Google Input) and instantly convert it!
